Lucille Korpi Obituary

Lucille Korpi

Lucille Korpi died peacefully in the presence of family at her home in Shoreline on February 24, 2017. She was 95.

The daughter of John and Christina Derr, Volga Germans who immigrated from Russia in the early twentieth century, Lucille Derr was born on December 29, 1921 in Portland, Oregon. She was one of five children. After graduating from Jefferson High School in 1940 and Portland's Pacific Business College in 1941, she pursued her business-office career and married Mike Korpi, her husband of forty-seven years, in 1948. Over the next eight years they lived in Woodland, Washington and Portland, Coos Bay, and Roseburg, Oregon, and then settled in Kelso, Washington, where Lucille gave birth to twin sons in 1956. After thirty years in Kelso, she and her husband moved to Seattle to be near their extended family. Lucille lived her last twenty-five years in Shoreline, where she was widowed in 1995. She loved old movies, classical music, word puzzles, conversation with friends and family, and doting on her grandchildren.

Lucille was preceded in death by her son, Philip, a Seattle dentist, who was married to his surviving widow, Katy. She is survived by her other son, Michael, an Edmonds attorney, and his wife, Carol; grandchildren Erika and Annikka (Philip's children); grandchildren Michael and Christina (Michael's children); and her grandson-in-law, Nelson Raudales (Christina's husband).

A Memorial Service will be held at Calvin Presbyterian Church, 18826 Third Ave. NW in Shoreline, at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. In lieu of flowers, and to honor Lucille's commitment to the education of young people, please send donations to Cambodian University Scholarship Project (CUSP), c/o Calvin Presbyterian Church.
