Norman Schack Obituary

Norman C. Schack

October 4, 1933 ~ August 27, 2015

Our dear Norm, husband, father, grandpa, and brother, died in his sleep on August 27, 2015 at Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton. He and Deanna, his wife of 55 years, have resided in Anthem, Arizona for the past six years, and were visiting Poulsbo for the summer.

Norm was born in Elmwood Park, Illinois and was raised in Seattle. After serving in the Army, he earned a degree in Geology at the University of Washington, followed by a teaching certificate. He began teaching in Elma, Washington, and his career included stints at Cordell Hull Junior High in Shoreline, Bellevue Junior High, and finally Newport High School.

When school was not in session, Norm was a home-improvement contractor. He spent several summers serving the Boy Scouts as a commissioner at Camp Parsons, and found time for camping, hiking, and exploring the West by motor home with Deanna.

After retiring from teaching, he brought his carpentry skills to his eldest son's construction company, working part-time for 5 years. He continued woodworking despite a long illness, crafting period furniture for his youngest son's castle and selling miniature furniture under his brand, Norm's Originals.

Norm will be remembered for his serene strength, gentle sense of humor, positive attitude, and love of his family.

Norm is survived by his wife Deanna Schack, their sons Joe Lewis (Sue), John Schack (Charlotte), and Dana Schack, grandchildren Kim Youngren (Scott), Kalen Schack, Eli Lewis, and Liana Lewis, brother Ernest Schack, and sister Terry Oneil.

There will be an open-house gathering to remember Norm on Saturday, September 26th at the Norman Keep (Dana's castle), 1698 Midgard Way in Poulsbo. Guests are invited to visit between 1:00 and 4:00 pm.

my dear friend,I am so sorry for your loss of norm. So many memories of spending time with the two of you; RVing, patio parties in az.,sharing your condo in Spain, what fun times. He was serious but fun, smart but humble, a gentle man, always willing to lend a hand. We hope the love and thoughts of caring friends will ease your sadness in time. Maurene and Dick

Norm, Thank you for always being there for me on my small wood projects. What a wonderful neighbor you were always so positive. The smiles you brought to Kiana on her task for Boulder Creek Stu go prom project. Going to miss you. God Bless you. John Sandra Kiana and Kiara Perez

My condolences to the family. I will always fondly remember Norm as the first teacher who taught me how to make miniature furniture. I continue to use those skills almost daily. He was a gentle soul and will be missed by many.

Deanna, Norm was your true soul mate. He was so talented with his wood working, all those tiny pieces he was able to so carefully place to make his miniature furniture so beautiful. I remember the breakfasts that he made for Maurene and I when we visited you two years ago in Anthem. How proud of the water fall he made in your yard. So many wonderful memories.
