We have a next door property to Dick & Cathy on Samish Island. Dick was a great guy and always wonderful & easy to work with and a pleasure each time our paths crossed. I was really struck by the news of Dick's passing. My heart goes out to his family & friends.

My condolences go out to Cathy, Kim, Craig and families. Even though I knew his parents (my aunt and uncle) in the early 90s when Tracy and I lived in Seattle, I didn't get a chance to know Dick very well. That opportunity came later through Kim and some ancestry work that I started. It was great that I got to know him better, and sad that as cousins, we could have enjoyed the outdoors more had I known him when we lived in the Puget Sound area. What a great guy! Just calm, cool, and collected. Funny. He had a fascinating history and every conversation was so interesting. God obviously needed Dick for bigger and better things.

Many excellent memories of Dick from shared experiences in Troop 277 (!?!?!) and First Lutheran youth activities. A truly honest, genuine guy who I probably didn't see after the 10th or 20th high school reunion but whose death touches me. Oh, and he always looked great (I say enviously) in his West Seattle Indians football uniform and action pose which for some reason is an indelible memory too. Thanks, Dick.

My memories of Dick span more than 50 years -- and all of those years bring back memories of fun and joyful times spent with him at his home in West Seattle and on the Sammish Island property. I was blessed to be part of his extended family on the "Gill" side. His smile, warmth, and gentle energy will be greatly missed.
