Just found out about Bob's passing from another Navy buddy. Bob and I were in the Navy together and served together at Lemoore California and on board the USS Ranger. Always felt Bob was a great guy and often I was the recipient of his big fist coming just short of making contact with, when he would make a sound like the brakes of a car coming on. Thank god he never delivered a punch or I'm afraid I would have been knocked to the ground. It was always in good fun though.
Bob was a great guitarist and me and many other sailors spent hours listening to him strum that beautiful 12 string he had.
Sad to lose a brother but thankful I had a chance to know him.

I just found this site while looking for over 50 years for someone who made a difference in my life, a wonderful young kid with a sense of humor, talent d and dare I say gift d. How can you possibly remember 50 years ago you may ask? AFFES armed forces examination and enlistment center Seattle, Bobs first day in the Navy is where we met, trained in boot camp then enter d va 147, 4 kids from Seattle thrown together in the service, looking forward to our life after the service even before we've survived those first years. What a joy it was to around Bob, or I called him RE Day (we stenciled our names on our shirts so we wouldn't forget who we were). Bob had a personality that always shown through the difficulties of the times! What a great guy! I'm so sorry I never was able to find him after our time in the service, but know among the guys that knew him understand we never stopped asking each other if we knew where BOB was. With a heavy heart, hoping that at some point his family will read this, I loved this guy and feel that we were lucky to have known him, I wish that we could have shared some of those early stories being in the service, away from home and family, learning how to truely survive hard times.
ROBERT E DAY I salute you! God bless! Nellie
