Roy Blackwell Obituary

Roy BLACKWELL Roy Blackwell of Clinton passed away on June 27th, 2011. He was 75 years old. Roy graduated from West Seattle High School in 1954, and then served four years in the Army with an Honorable Discharge in 1960. While stationed in Poitiers, France, he met his wife, Henriette. They married in 1960 and had four children (Bill, Mark, Chantal and Rochelle). During their 51 years of marriage, Roy and Henriette traveled regularly to France and throughout Europe. Roy retired from Fireman's Fund Insurance in 1992 where he had served as Resident Vice President. He later worked for the Lake Forest Park Water District and retired there as District Manager. Roy was a good friend to many, maintaining old friendships and always forming new ones. He charmed people with his humor, big smile, good looks, and sincere interest in others. He was a longtime blood donor, former Rotary member, and served as a volunteer for Hearts and Hammers. Roy had an ardent interest in history, especially that of the Native American culture. He took pleasure in fishing, and enjoyed watching the wildlife near his Whidbey Island home. One of Roy's biggest passions was hydroplanes. He raced outboard hydros for 20 years. A respected and competitive driver, he garnered a National High Point Championship in 2000. He is preceded by his Mother and Father. He is survived by his wife, four children, his brother Harry, sister Sharon and four grandchildren: Lindsey (15), Christine (11), Autumn (8) and Willow (8). His granddaughters lovingly referred to him as 'Bapa'. Friends and family are encouraged to share memories and condolences at www.wallinfuneralhome.com

Dear Henriette and family. I have put off writing in this guest book because I have been overcome with sadness at ths loss of my dear friend Roy. Cann't put into words how much his and Henriette's friendship has meant to both Teddy and myself. Roy was one of the most honorable, kindnest, warm and loving and (I might add) funniest people in my world. His sense of humor along with my husband's was like a night at a comedy club. I will always love peanuts because Roy dumped a several hands full of them in my purse at a dinner in Gresham when a group of us went to the Dog Races. I was picking out peanuts for about a year. After Teddy's death in 2003 Roy called alot to check up on me to see that I was okay. I promise I will check on Henriette and keep her close in the coming years. So my friend you say hello to Teddy for me and I will see you both sometime in the future and we can all laugh and play jokes on each other. Thank you for being in my life and I will miss you mucho. West Seattle Indians forever. Hugs, Barb

It is never easy to lose someone that we love especially if it is one of our parents. My heart goes out to the family during this time. You will be in my prayers and thoughts.

Even though we are relatively new to the neighborhood, Roy has always been a very dear friend. He was the first to loan a new book he had just read, or to loan some tool to Mike that we did not have in our garage.

Most of all, Roy was there with a 'big' hug for all of us women regardless of whether we were dressed to party or in the middle of a weed pile with garden gloves and dirty jeans on.

His smile, his good looks and being an impeccable dresser, Roy was the neighborhood icon - he was always good for a bag of popcorn at the Clyde Theater in Langley.

Henriette, you were so very luck to have had Roy as a part of your life and we were so fortunate to have known him.......

Love, Mike and Shirley Lacy

It has been a pleasure and a honor to know Roy as a great neighbor and good freind. We spent many good times together over many meals with great conversations. He leaves us way too soon, but will remain in our hearts forever. A another BIG hug sent your way Roy, until we meet again.
