Sharon Wong Obituary

Sharon Kay Wong

Sharon Kay Wong, 65, of Mercer Island, WA, passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015. She valiantly fought a 10+ year battle with breast cancer.

Sharon was born in Seattle, WA on July 24, 1950 to Gok S and Pansy Lee, the third of six children. She attended Baily Gatzert Elementary School, Asa Mercer Jr. High and Franklin High School. Upon graduation from high school, she attended Prairie Bible Institute in Alberta, Canada.

Sharon married Donald Wong on April 3, 1970 whom she met while working at Ruby Chow's restaurant in high school. As newlyweds they spent 3 years in Boise, ID as Don finished his service in the Air Force. In 1973 they returned to Seattle, starting a family in 1974 with the birth of their son, Matthew Wong, settling on Mercer Island in 1978.

Upon returning to Seattle, Sharon began her very accomplished career in Public Administration. She started in the King County licensing department, quickly moving up the ranks to Supervisor, Manager and then to the Director of Executive Administration under the Deputy Director of the Kingdome from 1991 to 1994.

After 23 years in Public Admin-istration, Sharon left to pursue her entrepreneurial ambitions, starting a number of small businesses over the next 10 years. In 2004, she began working with Lehman and Associates, then returned to Public Administration, serving 10 years with the City of Shoreline. Over the past 2+ years she held the post of Deputy Director for the Governor's office of Regulatory Assistance for Washington State.

Sharon attended Evergreen Covenant Church on Mercer Island, her Christian faith always being a very significant part of her life. She loved her family dearly, always interested in her many nieces' and nephews' events and activities. Sharon was fun-loving, creative, generous, kind and always thought of others before herself. She had a huge heart and was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and friend to many.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Donald Wong, her son, Matthew Wong (Kim and Caden), her mother, Pansy Lee, her brothers, Manny Lee, Karl Lee (Suzie), Edwin Lee (Anita), Edmon Lee (Susan), her sister, Linna Kitamura (Les), numerous nieces and nephews and sister-in-laws on the Wong side.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 14th at 2:00 p.m. at Evergreen Covenant Church on Mercer Island.
