Shirley Warneke Obituary

Shirley Mae Warneke

Shirley Mae Warneke, 88, died peacefully and comfortably, Nov. 6, 2013 while in residence at Crista Senior Living. Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Arthur Edward and Hazel Mae Warneke she moved to Seattle as a young adult. She was the eldest of three brothers and three sisters, all of whom were raised and remained in the Midwest throughout their lives. She held jobs with Pan American Airlines, Northgate Hospital and Shoreline Community College Business Office. She and her Aunt Myrtle Warneke, were among the first residents of Innis Arden where she lived until her recent move to Crista. Her fondness of the outdoors took her on many excursions to beaches around the Sound with her cherished pups. She was a strong willed, practical woman that enjoyed taking drives in her l968 Ford Galaxie. She preferred listening to music and sports on the radio or reading and never owned a TV. She always dressed impeccably because she believed "you never get a second chance to make a good first impression". A fabulous cook, her fondness for food made her a "foodie" long before the term was in vogue. When dining she ate very slowly, savoring every bite. Shirley will always be remembered as a supportive and generous friend, neighbor and sister.

At Shirley's request there will be no service. She will be inurned at Washelli Sanctuary of Truth Mausoleum. Remembrance memorials may be made to Crista Senior Living at 19303 Fremont Pl N, Shoreline, WA 98133.

Warm memories of Shirley coming out of her office and asking me to have lunch with her each day. It was my first week at Shoreline and made me feel so welcomed. I loved our lunches at her home each year and still have some favorites recipes from Shirley. She was so delightful to chat with. Love and miss her!
