Hayden Family and Friends, I am deeply and emotionally pained and regretful of your loss. I only met Tyler a few times as he and my daughter dated for a short time. I mostly saw Tyler through her eyes and she admired him greatly. I thought he had amazing presence and as I heard Dori's tribute and read other's memories I can tell just how amazing a young man was lost! I remember the younger Tyler as an athletic bundle of energy, spending time between swimming and our soccer practices. One of the most memorable moments I had coaching was during a city soccer match at Bitterlake. It was quite an event that took against a rival team from Ballard. This occurred during a torrential downpour, with puddles deep enough only a swimmer could navigate. After arriving a few minutes late from an earlier swim meet, Tyler explained he was freezing. After borrowing my oversize stocking cap that nearly covered his eyes, Tyler proceeded to score five goals. As not to run up the score we pulled Tyler. Nearing the end of the game with Tyler shivering on the sideline, he managed to talk us into placing himself back into the match as sweeper just to stay warm. Around twenty second later he scored his sixth goal Later as a young adult, when we would cross paths, I was amazed how Tyler had matured into such an attentive listener and conversationalist...a credit to his parents. He will be missed, but always remembered.

Our memories of Tyler are of the many company trips that he attended with his parents. Dear Dianne and Gary, but our fondest memories are of our times in Hawaii and the bantering that would go on during out dinners out! What a grand son you raised. . .with heavy hearts we send our sincere condolences.

After my daughter Hanna introduced me Tyler she asked me So what do you think? He has gorgeous teeth I replied. He did have gorgeous teeth behind a most beautiful captivating smile. I vividly remember his earnest and sincere handshake. He was a great listener and really wanted to get to know you by asking questions and taking it all in. As many have said over this past week. Tyler was the kind of kid you wanted your kids to hang out with. In fact he was the kind of kid I wanted to hang out with! Tyler called me Momma D. The world has lost an amazing young man way, way too soon. My family and I extend our deepest sympathy to you Dianne, Gary & Carrie. Love you and miss you Ty, Momma D

Dear Dianne, Gary and Carrie,
With deep sadness, I send this. Sylvia Burns, the massage therapist, here. When I first met Tyler he was 14, thinking of doing a Triathlon.He was pretty good at swimming so he thought he had better get out and ride his bike for improvement. After riding for 18 miles the first day, he was thinking he might have overdone it. After the Dr. did some work, he came to massage treatment. We hit it off and he used soft tissue work to recover when he needed it. He headed off to university swimming, but still came in for a "fix up" over vacations. I teased him when he chose UCSB because he was "tired of breathing chlorine air" and wanted fresh air in the outdoors. Then came the forest fires that closed down UCSB campus with smoke. Just this year, he came by for a session. He was so pleased to be working and making a "good life" for himself. I couldn't help but be proud of him too...after all, I knew him half his life. He was such a pleasant, determined and considerate person. I will remember him often. Sylvia

I did not know Tyler personally, but I watched Tyler swim. My son was a swimmer in Seattle and there were many times that they swam together. When I heard about Tyler's passing it is with such a heavy heart. The Seattle swimming community is connected by the sport that we love so much.
My heart goes out to your family, friends, and the many people you touched.
Tyler, you were beautiful to watch in the pool and I thank you for making the world a better place.
