Virginia Hardiman Obituary

Virginia Hardiman

Virginia Hardiman passed away peacefully on April 17, 2013. Born and raised in Tacoma, she graduated valedictorian from Aquinas Academy, earned a degree in Social Work from Seattle University, and later a Masters degree from UW. She met her husband of 61 years, Michael-who died in June 2011-at Seattle U. They settled first on Queen Anne Hill and moved to Magnolia in 1968. For 32 years, she worked for the Shoreline School District, a job she truly loved. She also taught graduate classes in Social Work at UW with an emphasis on child advocacy. She retired to enjoy "the races" at Longacres and Emerald Downs with friends, and time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Mary Ann (Gary), Ginni (Bill), and Michael (Gail); grandchildren, Kristen (Jason), Sean (Jen), Ryan (Abby), Alexandra (Brian), Anne, and Jack; and great-grandchild, Mia. Virginia loved her family and will be remembered for her delightful and quick sense of humor, strong faith, and unconditionally enthusiastic support. She will be dearly missed and always remembered. Rosary will be held Monday, April 22, 2013 at 7pm at BONNEY-WATSON Capitol Hill, 1732 Broadway, Seattle. She was a long time member of Our Lady of Fatima parish, where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 11am, 3218 W. Barrett St, Seattle. Remembrances may be made to the Carmelite Monastery, 2215 N.E. 147th St. Seattle, WA 98155.

Dear Hardiman Family, I am so sorry to hear about Deelie's passing. I've been out of town -- just got in late last night and read the obituary today from yesterday's paper. None of my family were at the funeral because we hadn't heard about it. We all loved your mother (and our mother loved your mother). We wish you the very best. love to you all, Eugenia Terry

Love and blessins to Mick, Ginny, Mary Ann and all their loved ones...Aunt Virginia you will be missed terribly..you were so special because you made me and everyone you talked to feel so special....as a young boy I remember how excited I was to see and talk to you...as a man (I was always Jimmy) ...I loved it even more...you were so funny..so quick with quips and analysis of things big and small..back in the day we would "smoke and joke" and how we could talk about the racetrack..Hopefully we can remember your energy, love, wit and frankness to comfort and strengthen us now that you are gone

Blessings to Virginia's family. Virginia, you were my mentor when, as a brand-new teacher (in Shoreline), you got me "up to speed" in the ways of a big suburban school. Your intelligence about children, your fierce-ness for their protection, and your humor challenged and fascinated me. That autumn, you took me to the "track" once; we laughed and smoked and gossiped all evening. Thank you for the memories. May your lucky family be comforted by your presence hovering above them. In fondness and sorrow, Kathy Leslie Ardrey.
