Wallace HINGTGEN Obituary

Wallace "Wally" E. HINGTGEN

Wally passed away September 12th, 2013 in Shoreline, WA at the age of 81, after a brave battle with cancer.

Born in Seattle in 1932 to LaVerne

and Marjorie Hingtgen, Wally attended school in Seattle and on Whidbey Island. He then joined the Navy, later serving in the Marines as a surgical assistant during the Korean War. He met his future wife, Laurene, at Doctor's Hospital. They married in 1953 and raised three sons.

Wally became a Seattle police officer in 1958, retiring as a detective in 1982. Moving to Whidbey, he opened Wally's Lock and Key. He and Laurene left Whidbey to travel the country by RV, visiting family and historic/scenic locales. Wally especially loved the beauty of the Southwest. He used his detective skills while savoring regional cuisine to create the recipe for his famous green chili sauce.

Leavenworth and Wenatchee became home from 1993 - 2010. Wally and Laurene made wonderful friends there as in every place they lived. They moved to Shoreline in 2010 to be near family. Genealogy continued to be a pursuit that brought him much pleasure. He left the fruits of this work to his family but more than that, he gave us his love and kindness which we will always remember.

Wally is survived by his loving wife Laurene; sons, David (Lori), Tim (Kelley), Wayne; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

There will be a ceremony at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA on Friday, October 4th at 11am, memorial following at Lighthouse Christian Center in Puyallup, WA at 12:00 p.m.

Remembrances may be made to a charity of your choice.

Wally was a great mentor in my police and personal life. A great friend and a great cook (secretly helped by Laurene I suspect). My love and prayers to Laurene, the boys and the rest of the family. Good bye my friend!

Wally was one of the first Officers I worked with as a rookie Patrolman. We worked Pike Street and he showed me the ropes so to speak. He treated me well then as he did everyone during his career and was just an all round great guy and was a credit to the Seattle Police Department. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Wally was a great detective/police officer but more that that he was a great person. Wally was a great teacher and always willing to share his knowledge and the secrets of the job with those coming up behind him.
May God bless and comfort his family in the coming months and years.
