Walter Brewe Obituary

Walter Edward Brewe

Walter Brewe was born in Pierre, South Dakota on Memorial Day in 1931, the son of Walter and Elsie Brewe and brother of Patricia and Lois. He passed away January 22, 2018. He spent his early childhood in Hayes, South Dakota until 1937 when the great Dust Bowl drove the family westward, first to Silverton, Oregon and finally to Vancouver, Washington.

After graduating from Fort Vancouver High School (the Trappers) Walter attended and graduated from the University of Washington in 1953 with a B.A. in Business. During said time he was an active member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity where he met many lifelong friends. He married Carol Manley Hicker at the University Lutheran Church in Seattle on June 20, 1952. They ultimately settled in Lake Forest Park where they raised their five children, Kenneth, Keith, Catherine, Kyle (deceased) and Eric. Walter and Carol celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in June of 2017.

Walter was the consummate insurance man during a 60+ year career. He founded the Redmond General Insurance Agency in 1966 and went on to purchase and operate several other insurance agencies throughout Western Washington (including the Arthur Strand Insurance Agency in Ilwaco, Washington). He was a student of insurance, received the CPCU designation and was a well-regarded teacher in the insurance field. He had a passion for his work and continued to come to his office until just a few months ago. In addition to his family, Walter loved salmon fishing (particularly in Alaska), gardening, river rafting, strawberry shortcake and the Long Beach Peninsula of Washington State where he maintained a second residence. In addition to his wife, Carol, and children, Walter is survived by eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, his sister Lois and many, many friends.

Walter was an adored father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Oh dear i had no idea Walter had passed. So sorry carol. Janell loved him like a father image. She wanted to help him learn to live without his site. She was very found of him. I remember driving him to long beach and he bought me a burger in monisino said it was the best and it was good. Nell was there in heaven waiting for him. Ill bet there watching the sea hawks! Lol

I just learned of Walter's passing today, Feb. 17, 2018. I wish I had known sooner to write my sympathy to you, Carol and all of Walter's extended family. Walter was such a dear friend to my blind sister, Janell Peterson who passed on November 28, 2017. I bet she was the first one to greet him at the pearly gates and they will be betting on the Seahawk game next season looking down at all of us, missing them.

Calling Walter the consummate insurance man is truly an understatement. One of the finest insurance professionals I met in my 35 year career. He taught many and was a true gentleman! He will be missed.

Carol and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Uncle Walt, as I always called him, was a genuinely kind person who I've always remembered fondly.
