Wesley MacCready Obituary
Wesley Alexander MacCready (Alex to family; Mac to friends) of Shoreline accidentally drowned in Micronesia on June 30, 2012, surprised by a big wave. He was 20 years old. He was an honors graduate (2012) of the John Dewey Academy, a therapeutic boarding school in Great Barrington, MA. He was visiting his aunt in Micronesia for the summer before entering Reed College in the fall to begin his study of neuroscience. He lived a full life in his 20 years and fought hard and successfully to transform himself from a lost boy into a moral leader and fine gentleman. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Moore, his father, Scott MacCready, and his brother, David Nicol, in addition to many other relatives and friends. http://www.facebook.com/events/368082063265494/ for information about the August 11 memorial or write to

This summer I was so happy to receive a visit from Alex's dad, Scott MacCready. Though I never got to meet Alex, Scott told me lots of great stories and showed me pictures and mementos about his son. I felt privileged to get to know him a little bit, posthumously, in this way.

I never got to meet Alex, but I probably knew enough about him to say we could have been acquaintances. He meant the world to Sophie, and as Sophie was a great deal of my world, Alex will forever be in my heart. I met Sophie the day after Alex passed, and I could never forget the stories her eyes told. Now knowing Sophie much better, I thank Alex for simply being friends with Sophie. I believe Alex is one of the main reasons Sophie is who she is today, and for that, too, I thank you. My sincere condolences to your family, I have only heard great things about Alex.
