William (Bill) Currie

William E Currie (Bill), passed away peacefully on December 17, 2015, in Seattle, Washington. He was born on November 27, 1925, in Cashmere, Washington, to George J. and Anna Amelia Currie (Jones).

Bill grew up in Cashmere with his three sisters and two brothers. He graduated from Cashmere High School in 1943, after which he joined the US Navy, serving in World War II for two years. He was the recipient of a Battle Star for his time aboard the Harry F. Bauer. He was discharged in 1946 as a Radioman Second Class.

He subsequently attended the University of Washington, where he earned degrees in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. After graduation he worked a short time in the Bioengineering Department at the University before beginning work for Honeywell Marine Systems as an acoustical engineer, where he worked until 1997. While at Honeywell, he was instrumental in the development of many new marine acoustical technologies for which he was awarded numerous patents.

Bill married Lucille Bovee in 1949, who he originally met in high school typing class. They were happily married for 59 years and enjoyed traveling, sailing, and working on their home in Lake Forest Park, WA which he designed and built in 1957.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille. Bill is survived by Laurel Currie Oates of Renton, WA; Stuart Currie (Angela) of Anacortes, WA; his brother, Bud Currie (Bonnie) of Wheeling, West Virginia; grandchildren Julia (Michael), BreeAnne (Alex), Cameron (Terese), Michael, and Lauren; and his great-granddaughter, Milla.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
