William McQueen Obituary

William Lawrence McQueen, Jr

William Lawrence McQueen, Jr. died on January 25, 2017 in Seattle, Washington. He was 86 years old. His beloved wife, Carol and his family were by his side at the time of his passing.

Bill was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 3, 1930 to William Lawrence McQueen, Sr. and Mary Priscilla Miller McQueen. He spent formative years of his life in Greenville and Wendover Utah and Richland Washington.

Bill met and fell in love with the light of his life, Carol Cole in 1950. After Bill's military service during the Korean War, they were married in Centralia, Washington on June 27, 1953. Bill and Carol recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

After graduating in 1955 from the University of Washington, Bill earned his CPA and went to work at Haskins & Sells. In the late 60's Bill took a bold step and opened up his own accounting practice, William L. McQueen, CPA & Associates. Bill sold his practice a few years ago but continued to serve his long-term clients until his death. Many of his clients and associates became cherished friends.

Bill is survived by his wife Carol and their five children: Julia (Michael) Greely, Bill (Judith) McQueen, Suzanne (Ken, deceased) Schiffler, Catherine Schiffler, and Tom (Kenlyn) McQueen, their nine grandchildren: Rebecca (Adam), Phillip (Erin), Sam (Anjali), Nicholas, Elizabeth, Jacob, Benjamin, Eleanor, and Maya, as well as great grandchildren, Eloise and William, and soon to be arriving Claire. He is also survived by his younger brother, Richard (Marilyn) McQueen and many beloved nephews and nieces. In addition, Bill and Carol accumulated many honorary family members who came to be considered family over the years. He was very loved and will be missed by us all.

Bill adored his children and grandchildren and was a very active participant in their lives. He loved spending time in the outdoors with his family, climbing Mt. Rainier, and vacationing at Seaside, Oregon. Bill loved good food, good conversation, and was open, accepting, and genuinely interested in all people. His favorite hobby was to learn by listening, reading and discussing topics that were important to him and to others. He loved life, and believed in living in the here and now. To quote Bill, "The best thing you've ever had is the thing you have right now."

The family is thankful for the kindness and care provided by Dr. Thomas Malpass and Providence Hospice. Remembrances may be sent to Providence Hospice of Seattle.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 3, 2017, at the Innis Arden Clubhouse at 1430 NW 188th Street in Shoreline.

Bill McQueen was a wonderful man and I'm better for having known him. His daughter Catherine is my life long friend. Growing up I spent a lot of time with the McQueen family and he always had a smile and was very welcoming to all the kids friends. I have fond memories of many Labor Day weekends spent with him and family in Seaside Oregon. My condolences to family and friends. Rest in Peace Bill.

Bill was a great guy. We loved having Bill and Carol visit us in Alaska and always cherished our time with them in Seaside. He had a life well-lived.

We've probably never known a more kind, thoughtful, compassionate man than Bill. He and Carol were models for us as we raised our own children. We are so sorry and offer our deepest condolences to his family and close friends.

My condolences to all of the family. I got to know Bill standing on the sidelines of soccer games while we watched Elizabeth and my daughter, Elise, play on the same team for many years. And again in the bleachers while we watched Ben and my son, Myles play basketball. He was the best grandpa ever! I loved how he was always there to support whatever the family was doing. He was genuinely interested in conversation and I enjoyed getting to know him.

I am so sorry for you loss. I am also sorry that I cannot make it to the memorial as I am going out of town today. I will be with you in thought.

Jerry has said it best, as usual.
You were so kind & caring to him and others. Your home was his second home growing up! He sometimes told me that he wished our family was more like yours. It was so peaceful! A calmness prevailed.
But a lot of fun, too! Thank you, Carol, for being there, too.
Jim remembers having lunch & chats with Bill years ago that he found him to be the real thing! Genuine! We all appreciate your connection with our family. He will be missed. Our prayers & condolences to all.

Bill and I crossed paths when Jeff and Nick played on the same soccer team for years, but I didn't get to know him until the past 8 years when we became bus stop buddies. i always enjoyed our morning chats. He was such a sweet, thoughtful man. I send my deepest condolences to the whole family on your loss.

Bill was my first "boss" when I was pretty young (16, I think?) he gave me a few hours per week in his office, helping with admin stuff. Bill was a wonderful person, and I learned a lot from spending time with him - he was very kind to everybody, and was a great mentor / role model for me.

Mr. McQueen was an absolute gem of a man. He was an important part of my life growing up with his son, Tom. He truly made me feel like a part of the McQueen family -- always including me on their trips to Seaside, tickets to Sonics games and so many Mexican meals at Poquitos and Mamas. On top of all that, I just liked him a whole lot. He was a great listener, incredibly kind and fun to be around. He always seemed to me like he had life figured out. Great family, great marriage, great career, great friends -- he made it look easy, yet it was so full and rich. As an adult with my own family now, I appreciate what he accomplished even more. My heart and prayers goes out to the McQueens and those close to him as I'm sure he will be missed like no other. With love and condolences...
