William Haltom Obituary

William R. HALTOM As Ballard's 'Bill the Barber' for five decades, he owned The Mug and Brush Barber Shop, was a charter member of the Pacific Northwest Men's Hair-Styling Association, and represented men's hair goods and hair care products for several manufacturers. He participated energetically in the Ballard Exchange Club as well. Born in Shelbyville, Indiana on May 24, 1930, Bill enjoyed his small-town childhood and often thought of it fondly in his late years. He graduated from Shelbyville High School in 1948, joined the U. S. Navy at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, and posted at Pier 91 before serving aboard the U. S. S. Rochester during the Korean War. He married Patricia Baechler of Seattle in July 1950. Together they had three children: Bill Haltom of Tacoma, Patty Reid of Sea-Tac, and Teresa Miner, late of Mount Vernon. In July 1970 he wed Carolyn Fenwick of Bellevue. They lived in Shoreline from 1973 until his death. Graveside service at Evergreen Washelli Memorial Park at 1:00 on July 5th.

Please accept my deepest sympathies in the passing of your father.I am a childhood friend of Teresa. We went to St. Alphonsus school together. I often wondered what happened to her. If you could contact me I would appreciate it. Again, please accept my deepest sympathies. Theresa Sphung-Kauffmann

Bill was a good friend and fellow barber with my father "Pete the barber". Bill helped carry my father to his grave in 1978 and used me as a model in hair cutting competitions. Rest in Peace, Bill.
