George Brabb Obituary

George J. BRABB George was born May 9, 1925 in Buhl, Idaho to Leslie and Nellie Brabb. George married Betty Lenz in 1949 and they enjoyed 60 happy years together. He passed away in Seattle, on May 13, 2011 after a brief illness. George was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Betty Brabb and son, Lloyd Brabb. He is survived by his daughter, Thea Brabb, son-in-law Kirk Hoover, sisters; Edna Merle Harmon of Buhl, ID and Maxine Harper of Twin Falls, ID. He also leaves 3 grandchildren; Brian, Davin and Laura Hoover. He served as a radioman and crew chief in the US Navy during WWII, and then earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Idaho and a PhD from the University of Illinois. He taught as a professor of Management, Statistics and Business Administration at the University of Washington, University of Montana, University of Colorado, and Illinois State University where he also served as Chairperson. He authored numerous textbooks. Dr. Brabb was an activist in the protection of the environment, serving as Charter President of the Five Valley River Parks Association in Missoula, Montana, as well as president and board member of the Kootenai Environmental Alliance in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. In addition he was a member of the Kootenai County Air Quality Advisory Committee, the Smoke Management Advisory Committee, and was active in the Coeur d'Alene Basin Restoration Project, serving on the Citizens Advisory Committee and the Governor's Coeur d'Alene Basin Commission. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in George's nameto Kootenai Environmental Alliance, P.O. Box 1598, Coeur d'Alene, ID 83816-1598 or to the Hays Hall Scholarship Fund, Gifts Administration Office, U of ID, P.O. Box 443137, Moscow, ID 83844-3147. A memorial service for George will be held at Acacia Funeral Home in Seattle, WA on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 2:00 pm. George was more than a good friend. He was a College classmate, best man at our wedding, fellow camper, etc.
