Branda Luke Obituary

Branda Pui Chu LUKE Branda Pui Chu Luke, born March 17, 1954 in Guangdong, spent most of her childhood in Hong Kong and in 1969, her family immigrated to Seattle, WA to pursue a better life. She graduated from the U of W and has three children: Curtis Luke, Bryant Luke, and Wendy Luke. She became a single Mom in 1991 and devoted her life to raising her three children. With no previous job experience, she was given an opportunity by her dear friend, May Wan, who asked her a simple question, "What can you do?". Branda's reply was, "I'm good with people". That simple response would go on to define her successful career, beginning as a private banker helping new immigrants open accounts and, in 1994, transitioning to mortgage broker. Branda was introduced to Christianity in 1989 by another dear friend, Dora Chin. Branda credits her success in life to Jesus Christ and was an active member of Cornerstone Church. Branda's faith was so strong that she constantly said, right up until her passing, that she felt no fear in dying and is at peace with what plans God might have for her. Branda enjoyed singing, spending time with her friends in person or by phone and was adventurous in exploring new foods. Branda dearly loved her three kids and two young grandchildren. In Feb 2008, Branda discovered she had stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer. Branda fought initial estimates of one year to live and lived three life filled years after her initial diagnosis. She passed away peacefully on March 18, 2011,, surrounded by her children and family. Branda is survived by her children, her daughter-in-law Michele Luke; her grandchildren Jayden Luke and Jazmine Luke and a host of close family and friends. The funeral service is at Renton First United Methodist Church (2201 NE 4th Street, Renton, Washington) on Saturday, March 26th at 10:00 a.m. Viewing will be 12 noon to 5:00 p.m. at the Greenwood Memorial Park Funeral Home, 350 Monroe Ave. NE, Renton, Friday, March 25th. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Branda's church, Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, 13240 NE 20th St. Suite 19A, Bellevue, WA. 98005.

I met Branda at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in Nov. 2008 (the Month of Lung Cancer Awareness) when I participated in a forum with my Oncologist and his chief nurse to tell my story of living with lung cancer. She caught my attention immediately and we chatted after the forum. She was trying to learn as much as she could about lung cancer. She was a very warm and smart person, trying to learn everything there is about lung cancer. I don't know anyone who fought as hard as she did. We, the three Asian women in Seattle who faced the same deadly disease, managed to get together for lunches and comforted each other and exchanged information, and found friendship only us know how precious it was. The last time I called her before I was leaving town in mid-March. She answered the phone, but told me that she was too weak to continue the conversation. I just found out about her passing away today. I missed her terribly, but I know she is now in good hands and is finally at peace without cancer pain and weakness. God bless her. Lily

I met Branda when she joined us for brunch at the Royal Hawaiian. Only one meeting, yet she made a lasting impression of goodness and kindness. Who can ask for more?
