Medard Wankowski Obituary

Medard (Jerry) WANKOWSKI Medard (Jerry) Wankowski passed away quietly in his home, surrounded by family, on March 4th. We are thankful he is at peace and again joined with his beloved wife and son. Jerry was born May 7, 1933 to Nick and Anna Wankowski of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was one of eight children. He joined the Army in 1953 and was stationed at Ft Lewis. He met the love of his life, Ellen Sims, at a USO dance, and they married in 1954. After completion of his service they settled in the Seattle area. He worked in the electronics field for 35 years, including time when he and Ellen owned a business in Burien. Jerry loved being outdoors. He spent many hours camping, hiking, and fishing. He was often found sitting by a campfire with a cup of coffee late into the night. His favorite fishing trip was one he took to Alaska with his son Steve. He was very involved with Boy Scouts and as Scout Master for troop 368 helped several boys, including his son, achieve the rank of Eagle. Jerry enjoyed touring the country with his wife in their motor home, and visiting Civil War sites. He remained a loyal Green Bay Packers fan and enjoyed this year's Superbowl tremendously. Jerry loved his family, his country, and his dogs. He was a steadfast and loyal friend, a strong and brave leader for the family, and a teacher who touched the lives of many. His presence will continue to be felt and his legacy passed on. He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen, his son Steven Wankowski, his parents, and several sisters and brothers. He is survived by his daughter Wendy (James), Haas and grandsons Matthew and Michael Haas. Services were held in Seattle on March 12. Friends and relatives may leave tributes at Yaringtons.com. Donations may be made to the USO.

I have many fond memories of Uncle Jerry and cherished the times the families spent together, either in Seattle or in Milwaukee. He always had a joke to share and/or a jab that made you laugh. Rest in Peace!

Thank you for sharing all of the memories in pictures. I remember your family fondly. Jerry, you were part of my life when I was a kid. I remember your laugh and what fun you and Ellen were.
I will forever remember you and my dad being chased around our camp site in Canada by a bear while all of us kids were watching from the van.

Wendy, you and your family are in our prayers. God Bless. Tiny (Larry and Jean Snyder's daughter.)

Jerry and Ellen were a very special part of my life. Working at Hi line TV was the begining of a great friendship. I will miss them forever, but they will always be in my heart. My love to you all. I wish I could be there.
