It is this time of year that reminds me most of Carl and his sweet and loyal nature. Cutest man ever! He used to get so excited for Opening Day and even when he was ill he insisted on bringing us lovely flowers from his garden to use at the Windermere tent. Super special human being. We will miss him this year and are sorry for your loss. I have proposed that perhaps your family row through the Cut before the races begin in memory of Carl. Let me know.

Carl frequented the Meridith Mathews YMCA where I was lucky to sweat next to him for many an elliptical hour. He brightened the whole place with his bouquets and gentle kindness. I talked to him over years as he grieved and went on from Lou's death. Plants from her garden now emerge in mine. What a wonderful role model for how to grace the world. I wish I had seen his garden, but I am grateful for our conversations and hope to use my retirement as he did his. I learned of his passing only yesterday, from Michael Callahan at the Connibear Shell House as I looked for Lou's boat and thought about Carl. My thoughts are with you all

Carl had a tremendously generous heart. It was difficult to stop by to say 'hello' without leaving with an armful of flowers or a plant from his garden.
Love and condolences to the Lovsted Family. Both Carl and Lou were exemplary people.

With deepest sympathy to the Lovsted and VanPelt families. Carl's father and my grandfather, Alfred N. Lovsted, were brothers. My mother shared many stories of visiting with the Lovsted family in Mt. Baker.
