Robert Steen Obituary

Robert Noel STEEN Age 65. Born June 21, 1939 in Wenatchee, WA. Passed away March 11, 2005 in Seattle, WA. Bob graduated from West Seattle High School in 1957. He enlisted in the US Army in 1958 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1963. He was preceded in death by his father Norman Steen and his mother Geraldine Abbott Wilson. Bob is survived by his uncle James V. Abbott of Seattle and many cousins and other relatives in the Seattle area. Bob was employed for the last several years at the Sports Den in the Seattle Center, where he made many friends with his good humor and generosity. "Cousin Bob" was a fixture at Abbott family gatherings, entertaining all with his stories and unique perspective of life. He was greatly admired for his sobriety for the last 15 years. Bob was generous with everyone and will be greatly missed by friends and family alike. A Memorial Service for Bob will be held at Bleitz Funeral Home, 316 Florentia Street, Seattle, WA on March 23rd, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2120 First North, Seattle, WA 98109. "X marks the spot where a good friend stood And did the thing he said he would; Scattered my ashes...the wind diffused them But while they were ME, God knows I used them."

What can ya say about Bob. I met Bob when I met Jennifer, I can say that about most of the hob-nob that was the Center. Mostly, of our time together was through letters that would always catch me up on the current Seattle Sports scene. Be it how bad the Sonics sucked or how the Mariners blew another season he kept me connected to my adopted city. Mostly I didn't thank him enough for looking after my other family (Marlo & Linda). Thanks Sporty Bob, you helped this Sailor more than you will ever know.

Bob was like an uncle to me. I've been away from home for quite some time, but I always knew that if I needed anything - he would be there for me. I'll never forget all the times he made me smile.

Hey Bob, don't know if you'll ever get to read these or not, but I just wanted to tell you a few things that I didnt get a chance to say before. Sorry that we are coming in just under the wire. You know us, always late! You have been the closest thing to an uncle that I have ever had. Most people dont get to choose their family, but I am glad that in some weird way, I got to choose you. Thanks for all of the great birthday cards when I was a kid. They were super - with original limericks, even! I hope that wherever you are, there are plenty of hard crosswords to do, and plenty of hungry cats to feed and pet. I am sorry that when I came to visit you, I didn't come in and see you. I tried, but it was too hard. I'm sure you'll understand. It's too bad that we really never know how much we love someone until they are gone. Miss you lots 'Uncle' Bob. We love you still. God bless.

Bob has been my very good friend for at least 15 years. He always seemed to be there when I needed someone to talk to. He was always very helpful with the crossword puzzles that we did on a daily basis. He always had a smile to give and advice about the republican party, which we decided was no good. I loved the fact that he always had an opinion that I could disagree with. Oh my God- I miss my friend.

Bob was such a nice man. I went up there on many of my breaks to visit and recieve words of wisdom. He always brought in chocolates, candies, and chips into Frontier Gallery to share with us. A few days before his surgery, Bob bought me my last chocolate covered banana. It was a bad bannana, but it made a great memory. Once, he told me I should add a rainbow to one of our store displays, so now, every time I see a rainbow, it has a little bit of Bob in it. I still feel like he's going to walk in the door any second...like he's not really gone. Maybe that's because there still a part of him in all of the lives he touched.

Bob was one of the kindest, most sincere and generous people that I have ever known; always giving of himself, his time, his resources. He lived like a monk and, although never spoken, "helping humanity" was surely at the very top of his life's priorities list. He was a helpful, loyal, intelligent, caring and extremely thoughtful human being who, to me, represented the epitome of the word "friend." Bob will never be forgotten. His friendship will live forever in my heart and in the hearts and minds of others whose lives were blessed by his. I admired and respected Bob and it will serve my life well to strive to emulate his divine characteristics.

Peace to you dear friend. Peace and love forever as you return to the world of spirit. We will see you on the other side.
