Kenneth Putney Obituary

Kenneth Hart PUTNEY, Jr. Kenneth H. Putney, beloved husband and father, passed on to be with the Lord on Friday, November 22, 2002. He is survived by his dear wife, Helen, who is now living at the Park Regency Retirement Village in Chandler, AZ. and by his three sons and their families, Bill (Merry) of Kirkland, Richard (Pam) of Anacortes, Peter (Tina) of Tempe. Ken Putney was born and raised in the small Columbia River town of White Salmon, Washington where his dad was the local dentist and his mom taught English and drama at the high school. Ken spent much of his free time hunting, fishing and playing sports. He also enjoyed scouting, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout with three palms. In high school, Ken lettered in football, basketball and baseball. Ken did very well academically graduating valedictorian and receiving a two-year scholarship to Whitman College. He then continued on to the University of Washington, joining the Sigma Chi Fraternity and graduating in 1940 with a B.A. in Business. Ken joined the Army at the approach of war, quickly becoming a sergeant, then graduated from O.C.S. as a Second Lieutenant. He went on to serve with General George Wooley in the Signal Corp in Europe, eventually becoming a Captain by war's end. Ken joined the Army Reserves after WWII and retired as a Lt. Colonel in 1972. Ken started selling insurance after the war and soon started his own insurance brokerage, Ken Putney Insurance Agency, with an office in the Jones Building in Seattle. Ken met and fell in love with Helen Elizabeth Hardy at the University of Washington where Helen was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. They were married August 7, 1942. Ken and Helen raised their three sons in Edmonds and were involved with the Edmonds United Methodist Church for many years. In 1973, Ken and Helen sold their home in Edmonds and moved to Shelter Bay in La Connor, Washington. They enjoyed exploring the waters of northern Puget Sound in their boat, fishing, crabbing and taking in the sights. During the winter months, they enjoyed motor homing up and down the West Coast and into Arizona. They eventually purchased property at Happy Trails in Surprise, Arizona and then moved to a home in Sun City West. Ken's service was held Monday, December 2, 2002 at the Carr-Tenney Mortuary in Tempe, AZ. and he was interned at the National Cemetery in Cave Creek, AZ.
