Arline Cherberg Zadra

Arline Zadra Obituary

Arline Cherberg ZADRA May 22, 1912 ~ April 29, 2011 Arline went peacefully to the Lord at her home on April 29th, 2011 just shy of her 99th birthday. She was a life long resident of Queen Anne hill. Arline laid the cornerstone at Saint Anne's Catholic School and was a parishioner of Saint Anne Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Cherberg and 2nd husband August Zadra. Arline is survived by her daughters Carol Conger(John), Susan Lazar, and Maryanne Matheson (Bill) and her grandchildren Dave, Jim (Suzan), Paul (Mandy) Conger, Carolyn Harvey (Keith), Catherine Scholz (DeRoy), Lisa Lazar Pevey (Mac) and 9 great grandchildren. Arline and her husband Jim owned a restaurant, Cherberg's Broiler, on 5th Ave in downtown Seattle for 40 years. During the summer they enjoyed spending time with relatives in Florida and taking cruises. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Las Vegas with their children and spouses. Jim died shortly after. Arline had the good fortune to reconnect with August Zadra. Having known each other as children, after both had married and raised their families and both spouses had passed on, Arline and Augie rediscovered each other and married soon after. With that union she gained 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. They shared their strong Catholic faith and each Sunday for many years they took up the collection at Sacred Heart and St Anne churches. Arline loved her family and friends. She had a strong love for animals and had many pets of her own. Her home was open to all. She loved to cook, bake, and have big family dinners on Sundays. The family wishes to give special thanks to Club 24 Senior Living At Home, Roman Asfaw and Suad Abdella for all their years of care, compassion and kindness. They became members of our family. A rosary will be recited for Arline on Weds, May 4th at 7:00 p.m. at Butterworth-Arthur Wright Chapel on Queen Anne. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thurs, May 5th at 11:30 a.m. at St Anne Catholic Church on Queen Anne. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to The Humane Society, www.seattlehumane.org, 425-373-5382.

Oh so many wonderful memories of Mrs. Zadra. Picking her clothes out for the day, curling her hair, putting on makeup. It was always a happy time. How she loved her family and the joy of watching the Bachelor, or DWTS. Susie you always brought the best popcorn for us to enjoy. Mrs. Zadra you were a saint and loved by all who met you. Thank you for all the treasured memories I have of you. You are now safe in the arms of Jesus. Love to all your family.
