Harvey Bernhard Obituary
Born in Seattle WA on March 5, 1924. Died nearby in Kirkland WA on January 16, 2014. Served as a U.S. Navy officer in World War II, and graduated from Stanford University in 1947. He is the namesake and benefactor of the Bernhard Media Center and the Harvey Bernhard Varsity Football Locker Room, both on the Stanford campus. He was an active participant in the rapidly growing Las Vegas entertainment industry in the 1950s, and then moved to Hollywood to pioneer in the production of early television documentaries with Sandy Howard, David Wolper and Metromedia Producers Corporation before becoming an independent movie producer. His motion picture credits as producer include, "The Mack", "The Omen", "Goonies", "Lost Boys" and executive producer of "LadyHawke". Harvey was the son of Minnie and Moe Bernhard of Seattle, the brother of Selma Danz Vinmont and Inez Abrams, and the husband of Lillian Kramer Bernhard, all of whom predeceased him. He is survived by his sons Col. Craig Bernhard (USAF, ret.) and Robert Brown, granddaughters Lauren Bernhard and Cameron Brown, and great-grandchildren Dylan, Jordon and Sydney.
A memorial service will be held in Seattle on February 28, 2014, at the Butterworth-Arthur A. Wright Chapel, 520 West Raye St., followed by internment at Home of Peace Mausoleum.
Remembrances are suggested in memory of Harvey Bernhard to the Patient Care Tower Fund, Providence General Hospital Foundation, Post Office Box 1067, Everett, WA 98206.

Though we only met twice we knew of His great character from the stories his son Craig and his wife Joanne have shared with us and what a great legacy he has in Craig who we respect and admire very much. Praying sweet memories will fill the void.

My parents, Jack and Adelle Burrell, were close friends of Harvey and Lillian. Dad and Harvey have been friends since childhood. They went to school together, played football, joined the navy, and even ordered the same meals when out.....lamb shanks. They could not stop smiling when toghether. Met Mr. Bernhard only once at his granddaughter's wedding, but was impressed by his gentile nature and the same smile as his son Craig. May he rest in peace.

I came to Wolper / Metromedia for my first job out of college and thought that I knew everything, then I met Harvey who kindly brought me down a few pegs. It was both a pleasure and an education to work with him. God bless.

Unfortunately I did not get a chance to know Harvey personally but rather knew of him through his son Craig. Judging by the son he leaves behind I can only remark that he had to have been a good man becaause he left a great one as his most important legacy.

I always enjoyed working with you on The Omen and Final Conflict. It was a pleasure to work with a truly professional Producer. I shall miss not seeing you when I visit the States. We had some great times and I so enjoyed my visit to the Marina and those magnificent views from the ranch in Seattle. The industry and I has lost a great guy and a true gentleman.

I spent a few lunches with Harvey at the Everett Golf and Country Club along with my dad who was a real estate broker on some land Harvey bought in Silvana in the summer of 1973. He was a colorful character in his rattlesnake cowboy boots and Indian turquoise jewelry clueing us innocents in on the ways of Hollywood. He was a great guy and I felt fortunate to come to have known such a genuinely nice man that he was.
