Ellen McAleer Obituary

Ellen Josephine McAleer

Ellen Josephine McAleer of Bellevue, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015 with her family by her side. She was 84.

Josie was born August 29, 1930 in Ballynasollus, Northern Ireland to Patrick and Maggie McRory. She was raised in Cookstown, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland where she attended local schools.

On June 7, 1958 she married Charlie McAleer in New York City. They lived on the East Coast before moving to Bellevue, Washington in June of 2000 to be close to their family.

Our dear Josie will be remembered for her sweet and kind disposition. She had tremendous empathy and compassion for others, especially those who were suffering. With her lilting Irish brogue and sparkling blue eyes she would brighten the day of everyone she met. She kept in constant contact with a wide circle of family and friends in Ireland through Facebook and Facetime, having learned to use a tablet in her 80s. Josie was a devout Catholic and her daily prayers surrounded everyone she knew with God's love. The beautiful Irish sweaters, precious little baby sweaters and cozy crocheted afghans are now treasured family heirlooms. She absolutely doted on her grandchildren Brendan and Molly, who loved her dearly.

She was fiercely loved and adored by her heartbroken family. We miss her terribly.

Survivors include her loving son, Joe and his wife, Beth; grandchildren, Brendan and Molly McAleer; siblings, Bee Timony and Claire Mancini. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charlie, in 2013 and her siblings, Matthew McRory, Mary Fegan and Patsy McRory.

A funeral mass will be said at Noon, Thursday, July 16, 2015 at St. Louise Catholic Church in Bellevue. A committal service will follow at Lower Hillside Cemetery in Issaquah.

Its with great sadness that we hear of Josie's passing. This photo shows the love she had for Charlie and all the kids. She took so much time getting to know all the children. Sitting around the kitchen table telling the news. When she visited us, when asked what she would like to drink, the reply would be ' just a glass of water' (I see she has one infront of her in the photo), and of course a cup of tea. She loved being up in the place where she spent her childhood days. Last year when she visited she walked the road from her homestead to our house many times. She had a wealth of information in her head and could remember all the details of who was related to who. She always told me that she had dreamed when younger of building a house were we now call home. She is remembered with affection, and our lives are all the better for knowing her. May she rest in peace with Charlie.
