Muriel Mahaffey Obituary

Muriel Elizabeth Mahaffey

Muriel Elizabeth Mahaffey passed away peacefully on January 29, 2016, at the Evergreen Hospice Center in Bothell, Washington. Muriel was 82 years old. She is survived by her husband Derek, her two sons Kenneth and Brian, her four grandchildren Owen, Theo, Devon and Kyle, and her sister Dorothy Lavery. Muriel met Derek in high school and they both attended Queen's University in Belfast, Northern Ireland. They married in 1958, and a year later immigrated to Seattle, WA. They were married for 57 years and lived in the Bellevue and Woodinville areas. Muriel and Derek were strong supporters of the community - school boards, youth soccer leagues, cub scouts and community programs. Muriel was an avid gardener and had phenomenal skills with numbers and a life-long passion for mathematics. She taught many both formally as a teacher and informally over the years. Derek and Muriel enjoyed camping and explored throughout the western United States and Canada. Muriel enjoyed walks through the many parks and gardens in the Seattle area.

The family thanks the doctors, nurses and staff at the Chateau at Bothell Landing, Evergreen Hospital, and the Evergreen Hospice Center for their excellent and compassionate care.

No services are planned at her request. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that people who would like to remember Muriel consider a donation to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
