Robert Lawrence Pence, 67, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at his home in Sandpoint, Idaho. Private family services will be held at a later date.
Robert was born on November 26, 1945 in Spokane, WA to Larry and Christine Pence. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Spokane in 1963. Robert honorably served his country in the United States Army Reserves. He also attended Whitman College and the University of Washington, where he received his degree.
Robert married Shirley Hovenden
on August 6, 1980 in Seattle, WA. The couple served in the Peace Corps for two years in St. Vincent, West Indies. In Seattle he owned and operated the Robin Hood Company landscaping business for 25 years. Upon his retirement he and Shirley moved to Sandpoint, ID.
Robert belonged to the Newport/Priest River Rotary Club. He enjoyed helping the less fortunate, carpentry, writing, and spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Kolm of Sandpoint, ID; two sons Braden Pence (wife Cassie Trueblood) of Seattle, WA and Army Spc. Matthew Pence, stationed at Fort Drum, NY; brother Christopher Pence of Bainbridge Island, WA; and sister Judith (Charles) Rooks of Portland, OR.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Sally Pence.
