Alice Mayde ANDERSON Alice Mayde Anderson was born September 18th, 1921 in Ontario Canada and died March 10th, 2011. In 1930, when Mayde was nine years old the family moved to Seattle upon the death of her father. She attended John Mur Elementary in the Mount Baker area along with her twin sister Nell, brother Charles, and older sister Mary Elizabeth. Mayde and Nell both skipped two grades. They attended Franklin High School and the University of Washington. Mayde and Nell followed their older sister, Mary Elizabeth, and pledged the Alpha Phi Sorority. In 1942, Mayde married John F. Ballinger. They had two daughters Alma Jane Ely and Mayde Joan Ballinger. Mayde married Gordon Anderson in 1978. She added four sons: Gordon, Steven, David, and Stewart along with their wives and children to the family. She was a wonderful mom and step-mom. Mayde was an amazing grandmother to Kari, Scott, and Kevin Ely, Bowen, Cameron, Lisa, Christina, Betsy, Bonnie, and Blake Anderson. Mayde was an expert seamstress making hand smocked dresses for all her granddaughters. Mayde was a passionate supporter of many philanthropic causes. She was a past president of the Seattle Garden Club and the Seattle Sunset Club. Mayde was involved with the Children's Orthopedic Guild and the Child Hearing League. She achieved, excelled, and became an authority on everything connected to the garden. Mayde was involved in the Lake Washington Garden Club and the Rare Plant Group. Mayde was preceded in deathby: John F. Ballinger, Gordon Anderson, Nell Scott, Mary Elizabeth Ritter, and Charles Clemen. She is survived by her daughters Mayde Joan Ballinger and Alma Jane and husband Sherman Ely. In addition to: Steve and Pat Anderson, Gordon B. and Kathy Anderson, David and Lori Anderson, and Stu and Connie Anderson.
