Allan Anderson Obituary

Captain Allan H. Anderson set sail on his final voyage Feb. 18, 2011 passing away peacefully at his home in Edmonds WA at the age of 68. He was born June 10, 1942 to Harold and Martha Anderson. He grew up in the Stanwood area graduating in 1960 from Twin City High School. He attended Skagit Valley College and then began his lifetime career on the sea. He started as a deckhand working for Foss Launch and Tug eventually becoming the youngest captain Foss had ever employed. He loved the ocean, being a seaman and the camaraderie of his fellow mariners. Allan was a respected mentor to many in the marine industry today. In 1984 Allan left his position at Foss and began working at Crowley Maritime. He sailed as Tug Master before accepting the position of Senior Port Captain eventually becoming Manager of International Operations and Salvage. He retired in Jan. 2006. During his career he traveled extensively to many seaports throughout the world. Captain Al was a true legend of the seas and was known for his navigational skills, generosity and sense of humor. He was a member of the Masons and Shriners as well as the Masters, Mates and Pilots Union. Allan enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, golf, good food and conversation and time spent with friends and family. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Priscilla; his mother Martha; daughters Tina (Andrew); Shelly; Brenda (Danny); grandchildren, Brandon, Bradley, Duke, Levi & Sofia; brother Johnny (Vicki), nieces Cindy & Kirsten; nephew Michael & mother-in-law Mary as well as numerous extended family members. Allen Anderson taught me the most important lesson of the maritime trade. Show No Fear. He was absolutely fearless and was an example for all who followed. He is greatly missed.
