Arvella J. Weir Obituary
Arvella J. (Holman) Weir

Arvella was born 1 Nov 1930, in Fargo, ND to Hazel and Melvin Holman. She died at home in Seattle surrounded by her family, on 31 Jan 2013, after a brief illness. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle and the University of Washington with a MA in Librarianship. Arvella did nothing "half way."She was the mother of triplets, a pioneering woman as Regional Librarian and Senior Program Analyst at the EPA, recipient of the 1991 YWCA "Woman of Achievement" Award, producer for educational television on channel 9, herb gardener, community volunteer, avid Mariner fan, and world-wide traveler. Her vast collection of women-authored books, years of monthly book club gatherings with cherished friends, and whimsical collections of pandas and angels were very dear to Arvella. The pleasures of her humor, conversation, and cooking made "dinner at Arvella's" a coveted invitation to family and friends.

Arvella was preceded in death by her dear friend and long-time companion, Jack O'Connell; her former husband, Richard Weir; and brothers, James and George Holman. She is survived by her children, Mitch (Sandy), Mike, and Michele Weir; brother Richard Holman (Barbara); sister-in-laws, Cathy Holman and Elizabeth Holman; grandchildren Amy Cochran and Justin Weir; great grandson Brenden, and many other loved family and friends.

A memorial gathering will be held at Arvella's home on April 6 at 12:30 pm .In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to Northwest Harvest, Taproot Theatre Company, or the Red Cloud School (Pine Ridge Reservation, SD).
