Augusta Guempel Obituary

Augusta (Lenze) GUEMPEL Augusta (Lenze) Guempel, a very special child of God, was born on April 14, 1939 and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 27, 2011. She was born in Baguio, Philippines, the daughter of Eric and Winnie (Curry) Lenze. During the Second World War she was interred with her family in Camp Hays, a Japanese prison camp near Baguio. After the war she continued with her education in the Philippines finally obtaining her BA from Assumption College in Manila. After graduation she moved to Seattle and worked in a number of positions beginning with the Seattle Summer Youth Program. She later became a Work Experience Coordinator for the Seattle School System, first at Roosevelt HS and later at Ballard HS. Along the way she obtained her Masters in Adult Education from Seattle University. The greatest joy of her professional life was working with students. She helped them with occupational direction, college selection and in many cases with personal problems. She truly loved them all and they responded in kind. She is survived by the love of her life, George, whom she met in 1959 and later married in 1960 at Blessed Sacrament Church in Seattle, WA. Also survived by her siblings Julie, Bob, Paul (Mary), Tom; Her three children: George (Patricia), Kevin and John (Terrina); Eight grandchildren: Rachel, Claire, George, Brandon, Dylan, Devin, Adam and Matthew, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother John (Eva). Having been welcomed with open understanding arms there are many students, friends, and family that have been touched and are better for having had Gustie, Augusta, Mrs. G, Grandma (Big Grandma, Grandma Tibby), and Mom in their lives. A Celebration of her life to be held at St. Thomas Moore Church 6511 176th St. SW Lynnwood 98037 Friday, March 4th at 1:30 PM.

I lived next door to Augusta and George after they moved to Picnic Point from Ballard in the mid 90's. My mother called me to today to tell me that Augusta had passed away and I want to express my sincerest condolences to all of Augusta's Family, especially George, Kevin, Brandon and Dylan. Augusta was a wonderful neighbor and I will always remember her most beautiful and kind spirit. She is an inspiration to all those around her. I as Mother, truly admired how incredible of a Mother and Grandmother she was. She was a mentor to all those around her. My "heart" goes out to all of her Family and Friends. "Heaven" truly has an angel in their midst now.

Dearest Gustie,
You will be sorely missed in the Lenze family. You were the glue that kept the family together for so many years. Easter wasn't Easter without a visit to Gusties home! And, to you, George, I want you to know that Gustie adored you. I will always remember seeing the way that she would look at you! Beyond her family and all whom she held dear, she looked at you with such love in her eyes! A priceless gift to you dear George. My deepest sympathy in your loss.

Mrs Guemple showed love and compassion to me when many at Roosevelt High had given up on me. She introduced new ideas, and self esteem to a young man going through a very difficult time in life. I'll miss, and always love you Mrs G, thanks for believing in me.
