Bahram Cohanim Obituary
Bahram Cohanim

Bahram Cohanim was born on October 1, 1933 In Shiraz, Iran to Shokat and Aziz Meir Cohanim A"H. He died at his home on April 24, 2014.

Bahram came to the US in 1955 to study engineering at the University of Arizona where he met his beloved Porta Lee. They married on July 24, 1961.

On the recommendation of a physician, Porta Lee and Bahram moved to Seattle to escape the dry air that aggravated Bahram's allergies. They visited Seattle in January and were wooed by three days of dry, sunny yet cold weather. They decided to move to Seattle and when they returned it rained for 17 days straight. Despite this wet welcome, Seattle became their new home and their three children, David, Daniel and Rebecca A"H were born here.

In 1965, Bahram and Porta Lee started their business, Shemiran Trade. They began by importing Persian carpets and artifacts. They spent many months on the road auctioning off Persian carpets before opening shop in Seattle. In 1979 the family returned to Iran right before the Iranian revolution. Bahram sent his wife and children back to the States and promised to return within a few days after settling family business. The next day the government fell and his passport was no longer valid. He spent the next 8 months in Iran desperately trying to get out to return to his family. Once back in Seattle, Persian carpets were no longer easily available and Bahram concentrated on developing properties. Bahram never officially retired and went to his office each day until his illness made it impossible.

Bahram's greatest joy was spending time with his family. Bahram is survived by his wife, Porta Lee. He is also survived by his sons David (Melissa Rivkin) and Daniel. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Rebecca Cohanim A"H (Bobby Cohanim) and his brother Daniel Cohanim A"H. He is survived by his eight grandchildren Sophia, Mathias, Raquel, Emma, Hannah, Ezra, Natan and Isaac Cohanim. Also, his siblings Mohtaram, Roohi, Rachel, Cyrus and Mehri and beloved nephew Bobby Cohanim (Beth), Erica, Jason and Meghan Weisfield and former daughter-in-law Evelyn Cohen; and many wonderful family and friends.

Funeral services were held on 4/25.
