Betty Jane BARDER The Lord called Betty home January 4, 2011. She passed peacefully at home in Inverness, Scotland, daughter, husband, & nurses by her side. She was born February 13, 1925 in Franklin, Maryland to Bailey & Maud Conn, the youngest of five children. She was raised in Jacksonville, Florida by her uncle & aunt, Hugh & Alice Brugh, after the death of her parents at the age of 5. As a young woman Betty moved to the West Coast, living in California, Alaska, & eventually settling in the Pacific Northwest. Here she met & married Tony Gregel, the love of her life. Over the next forty years they made their home in the Bellevue- Redmond area of Washington. There they raised two daughters, enjoyed their granddaughter & great-granddaughter, & worked & cultivated many lasting friendships. She retired from Group Health Cooperative where she served as a medical receptionist for over 25 years. Widowed in 1996, she later married John H. Barder, of Woking, England. They traveled and made numerous trips across the Atlantic between his homes in Woking and Inverness, Scotland & her home here. Betty liked reading, gardening, had a little known passion for wildlife, & enjoyed an occasional cold glass of beer & a good laugh. She was a friend of all creatures great and small. Betty was a gentle, gracious woman who always had a kind, encouraging word for everyone. She loved God, her family, and her friends. She will not be forgotten. Her memory lives on in the hearts of those she loved, those who loved her, and everyone whose lives were touched by this special woman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Gregel, daughter, Cheri Corradetti Gregel, parents, Bailey & Maud Conn, aunts and uncles, Alice & Hugh Brugh, Virgil and George Shrout and Irene Lambert, sisters, Margaret (Kenneth) McCallister, Naomi (Otmer) Bailey, and Elizabeth Schull, brother, Eugene Conn, & nephew, Doug McCallister and cousins Frieda, Agnes & Lillian Dawson.
