I am just now learning of Bev's death. My steadfast walking friend in the 80's. Ironically, I think that we must have exchanged emails the fall prior to her accident trying to set up a walking date. So with the Olympics coming round and watching racewalking, I began to search for her. She was a wonderful person and an amazing competitor. Always supportive and glad to get in some miles together. Many miles on the Burke close to her home. I can imagine even now her cadence and style. Short legs that managed to go very fast. The last time I saw her, must have been in the 90's, with Jerry at their home in the Methow. She was simply a wonderful friend, all my best to you, however belated this may seem.

To soon a wonderful person has left our friendship, but left us with a lasting of good memory of someone that cared for the world. We know she now is resting in the comfort of our Lord.

Bev was a role model for me as a racewalker. She was quiet, unassuming and a fierce and gracious competitor. She was a valuable member of our winning Racewalkers Northwest Portland to Coast Supermasters Relay Team (1999-2001). I last saw her competing in the One-Hour Postal held by RWNW in Banks, Oregon.

I am Bev's oldest grandaughter, Jessica. She was one of the most beautiful and giving people I knew. Though it was difficult to keep in touch over the past few years, she was a very important and influential person in my life (especially during my childhood years). I used to love flying to Seattle and visiting her at the cabin. I remember her riding on the back of a motorcycle and pointing out deer and grouse to me along the trails. Just an all-around wonderful woman. The last time I had talked to her was in August when I told her I had just gotten engaged. I can still hear her beautiful voice filled with joy and how tickled she was that I had told her in person. I will be thinking of her when I walk down the aisle, wishing she could be there. I will cherish my memories with her always. I love you, Grandma Bev!!!! <3

I was Bev's maid of honor when she married Bob VanderVeer, and we kept in touch through mail and later email through these fifty years. We grew up together in west seattle, living a couple blocks from each other. we often played pool in her basement. My most recent e-mail from Bev was when we discussed the effect of current technology on the uprising in Egypt, and she was vibrant and full of ideas. this would have been not more than a couple weeks ago.
