Carmen Amundsen

Obituary Condolences

Carmen AMUNDSEN Ingegard (Carmen) Maria Amundsen was born on May 5th 1923 to Elin and Fritz Hammerstrom in Jonkoping Sweden. She passed away on May 6th, 2011 the day after her 88th birthday. Carmen immigrated to the US as a child and went to West Seattle High School. She later began her career as an office administrator in the Marine Supply business and eventually into Real Estate in West Seattle retiring in the early 80's. She was a long time resident of West Seattle but spent her last five years at Merrill Gardens, Mill Creek, where she met many more new friends. Carmen was a lady of great humor, wit, kindness and insight into people of all beliefs and ways of life. She was a great joy to many. In addition, Carmen was a lover of animals especially birds, cats and dogs. An outstanding hostess, cook and baker, her Swedish cookies were loved by all. Her holiday Swedish smorgasbords were a delight and her "pre Seahawk" lunches were always anticipated by son Kurt and his many friends. A wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a friend of so many, you have now left us a great void in our lives and will never be forgotten. Happy journey home, Carmen, the pearly gates are open for you. She was pre-deceased by husband Edwin (Big Ed) Amundsen and her parents Brigadier Fritz and Elin Hammerstrom, Salvation Army. She leaves behind son Kurt (Pat) Amundsen, Mill Creek WA, granddaughter Kelly Amundsen (Chris Monks) London, UK, sister Marion "Jonnee" Dohoney, Mercer Island WA., niece, nephews and extended family. No memorial service at her request. Remembrances to Salvation Army, PAWS or a charity of your choice. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
