Carol Ann Starovasnik|
Carol Ann (Dean) Starovasnik, born Oct. 30, 1935 in Seatonville, Illinois, was the seventh of nine children. After high school while working at Westclox, she enjoyed bowling where she met another redhead, Don, who earned his spending money setting pins. They quickly bowled each other over and were married in the Catholic Church in 1960. Following Don's job opportunities, the couple then lived in Minneapolis, MN, Lafayette, IN, and Madison, WI, while having four children. In 1973, the young family moved to Bellevue, WA, where Carol became involved in church, the kids' school, swim team, band, and other pursuits.
The kids grew, went off to college, but just as the college years were winding down, Don passed away from a heart attack in 1988.
Carol lived, loved, laughed and cried in the 25 years since Don died. She enjoyed family and work at the Univ of WA in the Mech Eng office, retiring in 2000. She hosted international students, professors, and served as a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer, all allowing her to continue as "mom." While Alzheimer's slowly eroded her faculties, it never took her joy, her big ready smile, or her heart. It did however eventually take her physical life with her passing on July 2, 2014.
Carol is survived by four children, Dean (Sherry), LeeAnn, Maria Hemmen (Jim) & Melissa (Bruce); four grandchildren, Daniel, Caleb, Sarah & Kathryn Hemmen; brothers Pete (Kate) & Kenny (Arlene); sisters Mae Gall & Rita Gibson (Roger). There will be no interment as Carol donated her body for research through the UW Willed Body program. Services will be held July 26th with her extended family in Peru, IL. Gifts in her honor may be made to the
or Meals on Wheels. We welcome you to sign Carol's on-line guestbook at www.Legacy.com.
