Charles Abrams PRIOR Charles Abrams Prior, 86, of Bellevue, WA, much-loved patriarch of his family, died peacefully in his sleep on April 15, 2012 in Redmond, WA. Chuck was born March 3, 1926 in New Westminster, BC, Canada, to Charles Franklin and Martha Cora (Abrams) Prior, their eldest son. Chuck graduated from Duke of Connaught High School, New Westminster, BC, in 1943. He completed a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, graduating in 1948. While song-leading in services, Chuck met and later married Emma Ruth Hughes in the local Free Methodist Church. Following a short stay in Summerland, BC, Chuck required major surgery, necessitating a move to Seattle in 1950.He became a U.S. citizen shortly thereafter. After a move to Bellevue, WA, in 1956, Chuck and Ruth became founding members of the Eastside Free Methodist Church, where they faithfully served for over 35 years. He spent his career at Puget Sound Power & Light Co. as an electrical engineer, retiring in 1988. He was an active member of the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers, teaching courses for the Power & Energy group. Chuck is remembered for his devotion to Ruth, concern for others, cheerfulness, endurance, wry sense of humor and quick wit. He enjoyed playing the piano, lifting his voice in song, a good joke, a well-brewed tea, eating cashews, travelling, visiting Canadian relatives, and spending time with grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Prior; his sister, Molly Walker; children and their spouses, Gerry and Linda Prior, Don and Jeri Prior and Susie and Bob Horn; grandchildren, Marisa, Melina (Paul), Brandon (Jenny), Jordan, Erick, Evan, Kyle and Bethany; and great granddaughter, Olivia. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Wesley. Arrangements are with Sunset Hills Memorial Park of Bellevue, where a family graveside service was held. Remembrances may be sent to Seattle's Union Gospel Mission. The family would like to thank the staff & nurses at Emerald Heights Retirement Community for their kindness and care. A service of celebration of Chuck's life is planned for 2:00 PM, Friday, May 4, at Emerald Heights, 10901 - 176th Circle NE, in Redmond.
