Charles "Charlie" Drake

Charles "Charlie" Drake was born on April 17, 1917 in Westhope, ND to A.J. and Alma Drake, the next-to-youngest of nine children. He passed away peacefully in Edmonds on Dec. 31, 2012. His father ran the local newspaper in Westhope, and Charlie helped out around the shop as a young man and became a linotype operator. He joined the Army Air Corps in Oct. of 1941 and served throughout the war as an assistant crew chief in England.

He met his wife Agnes Miklich in Montana, and they were married in Aug. of 1946. In 1947 they bought a home in the Ballard neighborhood, where he lived for 61 years. Charlie worked as a printer at the University of Wash. and enjoyed a quiet retirement at home. He continued holding season tickets to Husky football games for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes, son Clifford, and all eight of his siblings. He is survived by his son Jim Drake; daughter-in-law Anna; grandchildren Abby, Anthony, and Clair; and numerous nieces and nephews.
