Whenever I share a story about my middle school years, Mrs Marken is always in it. She was such an enthusiastic person, who truly enjoyed teaching. I'm very grateful to have had her as a teacher for two years. She will be very dearly missed.

You were a fantastic teacher and an amazingly passionate person. I looked forward to your class each day during a time in my life when I was extremely difficult to inspire. Thank You for your gifts.

Mrs. Marken was the first teacher who ever got me excited about my own writing. I missed her before and I miss her now.

I, like many, was blessed to have two years of English with her. I say blessed, because she was a treasure in every sense of the word. I only wish that she could have moved back to Shorewood when I went there, so that she could have taught my high school English classes as well. She will be missed greatly.

In her immortal words-"Don't cheat. It is so tacky".

Chris was incredibly energetic, enthusiastic, creative and inspirational . She loved to collaborate with the music department. I particularly cherish the "Carnival of the Animals" projects that her Creative Writing classes shared with orchestra.

I had the pleasure to have had Mrs. Marken for two years. She was vivacious, brilliant, energetic, unconventional and truly one of the best teachers Shoreline has ever seen. I remember so much from her classes, from the books I got to choose to read to the generously liberal and creative writing assignments to the wonderful enrichment projects. I am the reader and writer I am today because of Mrs. Marken. You will be dearly missed.

How sad to hear that we have lost the creative, vivacious person who inspired so many. My room at Einstein is graced with many items that Christie gave me when she retired. I will continue to treasure them as well as my memories of this special lady. With heartfelt sympathy to all of her loved ones,

Mrs. Marken fostered the creativity of hundreds of students throughout her career. I took English from her, also at Einstein, two years in a row. She made space in the class for the views and opinions of every student, and allowed each one to grow on their own terms. Teachers like her don't grow on trees, but I can only imagine how she must have inspired her colleagues as well as her students. My thoughts are with her family.

Mrs. Marken was my favorite teacher at Einstein. She was so lively and there was never a dull moment in her classroom. She will be very missed, but her teaching legacy will always be remembered.

Ms. Marken challenged herself to go all out for a family member / student in her Creative Writing class. She will never be forgotten!
