Obituary Condolences

Clifton A. CLEMENS Age 82, a resident of Westport since 1990, died on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Tacoma General Hospital. Mr. Clemens was born on March 9, 1925, in Abilene, Texas to Erwin and Bertha (Langford) Clemens. He moved with his family as a youth to Pueblo, Colorado. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy. After his discharge he returned to Colorado where he had worked as a stereotyper for the Star Journal and Chieftain. In 1954, he moved to Seattle where he worked for the Seattle Times until retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in both Seattle and Aberdeen, a member of the American Legion Post 127 in Bothell and a member of Teamsters Local 174. Relatives include his wife, Margaret Clemens of the family home in Westport; daughters, Linda Sipkens of Everett and Melody Young of Westport; three sons, Rick Clemens, Mark Clemens of Vancouver, WA and David Clemens of Woodinville; a brother, Bill Hayes of Brier, WA; three sisters, Nancy Lee of Mountlake Terrace, Pat Danson of Mountlake Terrace and Bertha Gallagher of Lynnwood; and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, a daughter, Cynthia Worden; brothers, Eldon Clemens, Tommy Hayes and Paul Hayes and a stepfather, Paul Hayes, Sr., died previously. An urn Committal Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Mt. Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Washington. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association, Western & Central Washington State Chapter, 12721 - 30th Avenue NE Suite 101, Seattle, WA 98125-4403.
