Della E. Messer Obituary
Della E. Messer

Della E. Messer was born on July 13, 1929 and passed away peacefully at her home in Edmonds on September 19, 2017.

Della's early life was spent in Orting and Juneau, where she met and married Elwin Messer. The couple lived their early life together in Boston and Lynchburg and then made their home in Seattle and Everett. While employed by Battelle Northwest in Seattle, Della transferred to their offices in Washington, D.C. Upon her retirement from Battelle she returned to the Northwest, establishing a home in Seattle and a business in Bellevue until her second retirement.

Della loved to travel and to cook for family and friends. Della also loved music and was a founding member of the Sno-King Community Chorale, a season ticket-holder at the Seattle Symphony and the Seattle Opera for decades.

Della had a ready laugh that encouraged even the least talented comedians. When asked how she would like to be remembered, Della replied, "As a good person who was technologically challenged".

Della is survived by her son Gary Messer of Edmonds, daughter- in-law Jeannie and granddaughter Jennifer; her daughter Bonnie Messer of Federal Way and granddaughters Anna and Bettina; her brother Rudy Ripley of Juneau, sister-in-law Judy and nieces Margie, Kate, and Jill; her best friend Jackie Gardner and her husband Gary Elmer; her cat Samantha; the dear folks at Serenity Woods, and a horde of friends on both coasts who will miss her wisdom, positive attitude and wonderful sense of humor.

Della asked that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Sno-King Community Chorale, Box 382, Edmonds, WA 98020-0382.
