Donald Boothby Obituary

Donald Edward Boothby

Donald "Raleighdon" Boothby of Seattle, born December 3, 1950, died July 18, 2012 of esophageal cancer. He often described himself as the richest man he knew, because he was surrounded by love, lived life with joy, and left the planet with no regrets. He was boisterous, irrepressible, romantic and generous, with an infectious smile and attitude. He had a quick wit and an irreverent sense of humor.

He was passionate about cycling, playing the fiddle, and baking pies. The intensity of his joy in these hobbies inspired many to take them up. He cared deeply about his family and friends, and was a spiritual mentor to many. He is survived by his wife Mimi, sons Josiah, Tom and wife Megan, his daughters Elena Gianello, Elena Verdolini and Renin Oliver; his mother Evelyn, siblings Christine Faubion, David, Michael, and Robin Pierce, a large extended family and innumerable friends.

A potluck celebration of his life will be held at 1:17pm Saturday, August 11, at the Garden House, 2336 15th Ave S, Seattle Gifts can be made to Donald's fund to get exercise bicycles for Swedish Hospital https://community.swedish.org/donaldboothby

Donald was always a unique and entertaining spirit and I am sure he still is and is riding the most incredible bike of his dreams! Donald was a blessing to my son Brian during his Lake Steven's triathlons. Those two crazy biking US Marines! I will miss Donald's humor and pies at Thanksgiving. May your spirit keep riding on in all those whose lives you touched while here on earth!.

RaleighDon, your love of life in the moment each day has epitomized what is good about transportation cycling. You continually offered examples of how to enjoy the journey itself for what it is. Thanks for sharing that with us all, and your delightful family...

We celebrated your life this weekend at the Pansy Croix Rouge Reunion. Robo, Homey, Howard, AndreHamel, and many others were in good company when we toasted you and Pansy this weekend. Howard and Mr. Pansy even did Eppie's Great Race and got you all a 4th place win! You are sorely missed, and I'll never forget all the great advice you've given me on my own long road to recovery

I'll always remember his 'Good Orderly Direction' and his dignity in dealing with his illness. Although I'd known him for over 20 years, we became quite good friends only twoards the end. That time has been very inspiring and valuable to me

It is impossible to put in an obituary the far reach Donald had in people's lives. I know he will be missed greatly but I feel the most sorry for people that never met him.
