Donald Eugene Rogers

Donald Eugene ROGERS Don was born August 27, 1932 in Los Angeles and died August 13, 2004 in Seattle. His parents were Carl and Irene Rogers. Between 1953 and 1955, he served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army in Germany. There, he met his first wife, Elfriede. He moved to Seattle in 1959 and earned his Masters and Ph.D. in Fisheries from the University of Washington. Don spent his career at the UW from 1959, until he retired in 1997. Even after retiring, he assisted with data analysis and forecasting the sockeye salmon runs into Bristol Bay, Alaska. His work was his passion and he was highly regarded as a salmon biologist. Don lived for about 15 years with pulmonary fibrosis and had a lung transplant at the UW Hospital in December of 1999. It gave him almost five years of blessed life. Don was pre-decesed by Elfriede. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Brenda, children Thomas, Jesse, Elizabeth, his granddaughter Melinda, his siblings Tom Rogers and Joyce Welton and Brenda's mother, Lorna Fosth. We all loved him very much and miss him dearly. A memorial service will be held September 17 in the School of Fisheries and Aquatic Science auditorium, UW, 1122 NE Boat Street, Seattle, at 3:00 p.m. For more information, call (206) 543-4270.
