Donald Travis Obituary

Donald M. TRAVIS Born September 5, 1934 in Seattle, to Esther and B. A. Travis, with older brother James and younger sister Beverley. Don attended John Muir grade school and Franklin HS in Seattle. He then attended University of Washington and pledged Delta Upsilon Fraternity. After 2 years at the UW, Don enlisted in the army and then finished his degree in Economics at Western Washington after his release from the army. He married Sydney Shepard in 1960, had two boys, Jim and George and moved to California. Don was in banking for 35 years, starting as a teller and rising to president. His favorite jobs were managing the Chartered Bank of London in San Francisco and the Bank of Milpitas. Don's expertise was in taking failing banks and turning them around. Don was divorced in 1967 and met Marie Sprague at the wedding of Don's sister and Marie's brother. They married in 1969 and three more children joined the Travis clan: Thomas, Annemarie, and Timothy. Eight grandchildren have blessed Don's life: Katelyn, Michelle, Dawson, Daley, Riley, Nathan, Lucas and baby Owen. Don maintained his sense of humor during his illness and a showed a courage that impressed all. He died on September 14th, 2011. Aside from spending time with his family, he loved to ski and golf. The date for his memorial gathering in the Bay area is October 9.
