Edwin Dale Hawney

Edwin Dale HAWNEY Edwin Dale Hawney was born June 11, 1924 and passed on May 5, 2011 in Mount Vernon, WA. Ed was born to Edwin S and Hazel Hawney in Seattle, Wash ington. Ed is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lee; son Roger (wife Sara), and daughters Faye (husband Mel), Glenna (husband Leo), and Karen. He also was blessed with 4 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and a huge extended family - some by birth, some by acquaintance, a few by circumstance, but all by the heart. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brother Eldon. Ed graduated from Lincoln High School and served as a cook in the US Navy during World War II. While stationed in Florida, he married the love of his life Lee on March 2nd, 1946. They returned and lived their lives in Washing ton after his honorable discharge at the end of that same month. After the Navy, Ed continued in the food service industry as a meat cutter, first owning his own business, then working for Albertsons until retiring in 1986 after 28 years of service. Ed's retirement was a full time job, but of a most pleasant type. He was a Past Master and life member of Greenwood Lodge #253, F&AM, life member of Occi dental Chapter #28, Past Patron of Concord Chapter #245, OES, mem ber of Woodmen of the World, and member of the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church. God, service, and community were very much a focus of Ed's life. Family, friends, community, and Lake Cavanaugh. Ed Hawney was the man in the middle of it all, doing everything he could to make his little part of the world a better place. Few have done it as well and none will be missed more. Services will be held at 3pm on Sunday, May 15, 2011 at the Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, located at 1511 East Broadway, Mount Vernon, WA 98274. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that a donation be made in Ed's memo ry to the charity of your choice.
