Elbridge Horton GIRDLER July 15, 1923 ~ May 5 , 2011 Horton was born in Marblehead, Massachusetts to mother, Gretchen Dennis Girdler and father, Elbridge Coffin Girdler. He graduated from Marblehead High School and went on to attend Northeastern University in Bos ton. Horton enlisted in the Navy during World War II and was sent to an officer training school at Cornell University. He served in the Philippines during the war as a Lieutenant and continued in the Naval Reserves for 20 years. After the war Horton attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York. He attained a Master's degree in chemical en gineering and worked in the paper industry his entire life. Horton enjoyed skiing, hunting, gardening, and golf, and was a Shriner. Horton is survived by his wife of 63 years Doris Bender Girdler of Bellevue, WA, his children Robert W Girdler of Rose Hill, Kansas, Deborah Girdler of Me dina, Washington, and Carol Girdler of Iowa City, Iowa. He is the brother of the late Lillian Thomas of Marblehead.
