Elinor Donald Obituary

Elinor M. DONALD Elinor M. 'Molly' Hough Donald passed away March 25, 2011 at home in Snohomish, Washington, surrounded by her family. Her 95 year journey began with her birth in Sydney, Australia, and included 18 months on a deserted island in the Great Barrier Reef to avoid the flu epidemic after World War I, emigration to Vancouver, B. C., where she graduated from Kitsilano High School at the age of 16, a steamship voyage down the Yukon River to Dawson City where she met and married John F. Donald. In 1955, they moved to Fairbanks, then Anchorage, Alaska where they raised their two sons. She moved to Seattle in 1979 with her sons, so she could be close to her grandchildren. She spent the rest of her life with them nearby. Her final home was in the apartment her eldest grand-daughter's husband built for her in their home, where she continued her grandmotherly duties with her great grandchildren. All three generations of her family were with her when she died. Mrs. Donald is survived by her sons Bill (Kay) of Renton, Washington, Alan (Shelly) of Henderson, Nevada, grandchildren Katy Vafaeezadeh (Abdi) of Snohomish, Allison Donald of Renton, Mary Donald of Boise, Idaho, Janine Donald of Salt Lake City, Utah, John Donald of Renton, Alex Donald of Melbourne, Australia, and four great-grandchildren; Laila, Shian, Kian, and Rio, with a fifth due in July. No service will be held, but a celebration of her long life will be held later this summer.
