Ellis Evans Obituary

Ellis Dale Evans

Ellis Dale Evans, 83, of Lake Forest Park, Washington, passed away in the comfort of his home with his family by his side on November 12, 2017. He was born November 6, 1934 in Topeka, Kansas to Ellis Meredith and Ruth Burchinal Evans. Ellis' family lived in Conway Springs and Wichita where he graduated from Wichita North High. He attended Kansas University where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Music Education in 1956. While at KU Ellis was a member of the Delta Upsilon (DU) fraternity. After graduation Ellis fulfilled his military obligation serving as an Air Force Captain at Geiger Field near Spokane, Washington. Next Ellis accepted the position of DU National Field Representative. Traveling in this capacity led Ellis to Indiana University (IU) where he met and married Cynthia McClure in 1961.

In 1964, Ellis completed his Doctorate in Educational Psychology, accepted an Assistant Professorship at the University of Washington, and moved to Seattle with Cindy. They purchased their Lake Forest Park home and soon after welcomed daughter, Jennifer Ann, followed by Alicia Ruth. Ellis enjoyed a successful and satisfying 33-year career in the UW Education Department where he became a full professor and later served as Chair of the Educational Psychology Department.

Ellis had three primary passions in life ... family, music and his academic career. He played trombone in various bands from high school through retirement and directed bands including the E Sharp Ensembles and the Nice and Easy Band. Ellis had a great sense of humor, a warm and welcoming disposition and was loved greatly by his family.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Cynthia Evans, his children Jennifer Orr and Alicia Evans, and his granddaughter Hailey Orr. His sister, Marilyn Hill, preceded him in death.

A private Celebration of Life has been held for Ellis.

Such a special man, father & spirit.

Honored & grateful to have known him - I will always remember your dad with a twinkle in his eye & a sweet, zen-like comment about life.

My deepest condolences. May that twinkle love within us all ❤

To the Evans family:

I am greatly saddened by the news of Ellis' passing. I have had the pleasure of his friendship for many years as a wonderful musician, singer and above all a man of great
integrity, humor and sensitivity. I first met Ellis when we played the Ertha Kit show at the Edgewater Hotel. I have had the pleasure of his musicianship, warm friendship, musical taste, showmanship, and brilliant trombone
playing for years. Our prayers go with you and
your family Cindy.
