Eric Buckmaster was in a fatal ATV accident while on vacation in Clark Fork, ID on Friday evening, August 24, 2012. He lost his fight for life early Saturday morning, August 25, 2012 at the young age of 41.
For more than 20 years, Eric held the position of Chief Engineer for many of Seattle's downtown iconic buildings. He managed the Millennium Tower, Metropolitan Park East/West/North, 5th and Pine, the Seattle Tower, as well as several buildings in the greater Seattle area.
Eric was a licensed electrician and a certified commercial building Maintenance Administrator. Throughout his career he worked for Benaroya Capital and Wright Runstad. One very notable highlight of his career occurred recently with his current employer, CB Richard Ellis, when he received the Chief Engineer of the Year Award for 2011.
Eric truly and passionately lived the Work - Life Balance; he worked hard and played hard. Outside of work, he was an outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. He enjoyed golfing, hiking, camping, motorsports and target shooting with his wife and dog. Eric trained for and competed in 8 triathlons, 7 marathons and numerous endurance bicycle races. Three of his most rewarding accomplishments were competing in a Half Iron Man race and twice completing the STP (Seattle to Portland) Bike Race in one day. When he wasn't riding his Cervelo, he was riding his Harley Davidson, sometimes riding all the way from Seattle to Winthrop simply for the best homemade blackberry ice cream in the world. In summer his rides of choice were his dirt bike and ATV; in winter it was his snowmobile.
Sunny weekends were also filled with boating on Lake Washington. Eric never missed an opportunity to get the "best seat in the house" during Seafair weekend taking his close friends to watch the festivities. When football season began, the best place to find Eric was in his same seat at the UW Stadium every year watching his favorite UW Husky football team; he never missed a game and was an avid fan.
Known to so many as the man to "speed-dial" for answers, Eric generously gave of his time and talents with all things building, construction and technology-related; he had a sixth-sense with technical gadgets and could figure out the most confounded problems. Eric was truly a Master of All Trades, and truly enjoyed being the Man with the Most Toys. Most of all though, Eric lived his way, Larger than Life, and shared every minute of it with his devoted wife of almost 20 years, Charlene close by his side.
Eric was an exceptional husband, dad (to his pup), son, brother, grandson and an extraordinary friend. His death will leave a huge void in many lives.
Eric is survived by his Wife Charlene Buckmaster and their dog Mandy of Shoreline, WA; Mother Joey Currin (Tim) of Bothell , WA; Father Neil Buckmaster (Judy) of Bellevue, WA; Sister Holly Buckmaster of Mountlake Terrace, WA; Sister Katharine Buckmaster of Bellevue, WA ; Brother Christopher Buckmaster of Bellevue, WA; Nephew Jordan Buckmaster of Mountlake Terrace, WA.
