We of the Class of 1961 will remember Fr Mallahan at our reunion next month. He had many stories and jokes he told and I wish I had heard the Rose joke myself so we could keep it going.

My Brother and I were Alterboys in the 1960's at Holy Rosary in Edmonds where Father Mallahan would say Sunday Mass. He was always so kind and caring with us, asking about our Family and how we were doing. He made it great serving Mass and was one of our Adult role models that we always looked up too!
May you enjoy the rewards of a lifetime of serve to the Lord and please say hi to my Father and Grandfather, they have been expecting you Father Mallahan!

I had just completed the RCIA program and had been asked to be a lector at Holy Rosary. I was nervous before the first time I read and Father Mallahan picked up on it and told me his "Rose" joke. I laughed (of course - he was very funny) and truly appreciated his gesture to make me feel comfortable. During his homily he recognized me for taking part in the church right after completing RCIA. I was truly struck at how welcoming he was then and continued to be throughout his life. I will never forget his kindness. God bless you Father!

Wow, "Cuz," (actually first cousin to my wife, Joanne, daughter of Jim's
mother's youngest brother Ed Valencsin) it has been a while since our
last visit! Visited Jim in West Seattle when in that area, and Jim came
to Walla Walla to take care of a couple of Valencsin funerals! Jim leaves us with many pleasant memories!
And a twist!.......Jim, my wife's cousin, when at Blanchet, kicked a cousin of mine (a student) out of school....some years before I ever met Jim or my future wife....oh, well, another story!

My family (the Fletcher's and McGrath's) knew Fr. Mallahan from St. John's Parish in North Seattle. He always had a word for everyone he greeted after Mass. "Well done good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of your Lord"

Thank you for the info regarding Fr Mallahan's passing. No, I didn't know and it was sad to hear. He was right up there at the top of my list of what I thought a school administrator should be. He was one of those rare special people who did not let things slip by without taking time to check and re-check to make things right and he had the highest of moral standards. I have many warm memories of him and feel fortunate that I had the opportunity to work with and for him. Unfortunately he is the second person this past week that I have worked with in education who has passed. I guess it's time for me to wake up and smell to roses.
We will not be able to attend but thank you for the invitation.

Father Jim was a friend to and an inspiration for many priests of the Archdiocese of Seattle. He modeled a ministry to God's people that was loving and wise, but also a lot of fun. Jim was simply unforgettable!

Fr. Mallahan had a substantial impact on my life. As an eight grader my father passed away and I experienced adjustment difficulties in school. At the time Father Mallahan was assistant pastor at Saint Johns and when it came time for me to apply to Blanchet High School he was my advaocate. I am certain I would have not been admitted without his intervention. The continuation of my Catholic Education was instrumental to my future. When my mother died in 1998, he agreed to conduct the ceremonies at Holy Rood even though he was retired. My family and I owe him a debt of gratitude that can never be repaid.I am certain God has a special place for this man who devoted his life to others. Dan Farrell

Those of us who went to Blanchet HS in the early days will remember a straight-talking, no nonsense, warm and friendly man of God who cared for us and directed us and inspired us to be the people that God intended us to be. He always remembered that I was on the first golf team at Blanchet even though that was almost 50 years. There is a void in my life but a wonderful memory in my heart of a remarkable priest and great human being. RIP Fr Mallahan. You did make a difference in our young lives at Blanchet.

Fr. Mallahan helped shepherd me through high school at Blanchet. Many years later, when I was a teacher, I had him visit my class. He forthwith took control and had the students in the palm of his hand.

Thanks to God for the gift and inspiration Father James Mallahan has been in his priestly ministry and his strength amid the trials of failing physical health. May he now enjoy the blessings of heaven with the Savior he loves.

He married us 37 years ago in Bellevue and was our pastor twice in West Seattle. He baptized our children and blessed our homes. He was a source of profound joy in our lives for all of those years and he will continue to live in us. I will toast him on his birthday October 10 with a fine glass of scotch. Rest in Peace, Father!
