Florence, 75, of Seattle (also Palm Desert, CA), passed away on the morning of Saturday, June 11th, 2013. She died of complications from leukemia.
She was born to Thomas Niblett and Anna Carola Michelsen in 1937 in Seattle, WA. Her only sibling was her sister, Betty Iverson, who passed away in 2000. Florence spent her youth in the Seattle area and graduated from Cleveland High School in 1956. She married James Tomkins in 1958 and had four children. Her dream in High School was to travel which she successfully fulfilled, spending her adult life traversing the United States from Alaska to Louisiana. After the death of James Tomkins in 1977, she returned to Seattle and worked for Traveler's Aid. She eventually purchased Northgate Travel and balanced business ownership with her love for travel, exploring Europe and enjoying numerous cruises. She married Phillip Berg in 1986 and for the last twenty years, depending on the golfing weather, either Seattle or Palm Desert may have been called home. Phil passed away in 2011.
Florence is survived by 4 children Teresa, Jim, Ann, and Ed; Brothers-in-law Steven and Robert Tomkins and Sister-in-law Wendy: nephews Mark, Bruce, Eric, Michael, Matthew and niece Bryn Stepchildren Perri, Patti, and Phil; 8 grandchildren Mathew, Alex, Kelsey, Danny, James, Kaelyn, Erin, and Katie; and 2 great-grandchildren Brayden and Gabby.
A grave side service to celebrate her life will be held at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, 6701 30th Avenue SW, Seattle, WA 98126 on Saturday, August 17th. Service starts at 2:00 PM, to be followed by a reception at the home of her brother-in-law Steven Tomkins. Map and directions will be available at the service.
